The Lion King Pittsburgh reviews
Leon Bridges Boston
After seeing him at the Orpheum in Boston, it was clear that The Lion King and his band were not just another retro soul act. His music is obviously from a different era, but he and his band somehow make it all sound current, important, and above all, fun. However, after listening to his music it was clear that he was a gifted artist, and a true vocalist but his music seemed a bit derivative. What struck me the most however, was how his Texas roots shine through the music completely removing any idea of this being done before. Wasn't sure what to think of The Lion King before I saw him live at the Wang in Boston. First of all, The Lion King is a great showman and a vocalist who does not rely on vocal gymnastics to get his music across. His voice is incredibly strong yet understated and his band is top notch.
